How it works
Set the tempo
Drag the slider, type a BPM, use + / -, or tap the tempo in.
Pick the feel
Choose a time signature, accent the downbeat, and add 8ths, triplets or 16ths to lock in the groove.

Hit play (or Space). The lights follow the beat so you can watch as well as listen.
How to use an online metronome for practice
A steady click is the fastest way to tighten your timing. This free online metronome runs in any browser, with time signatures, accents, subdivisions and tap tempo.
Set the tempo
Drag the slider, type a BPM (20-300), use − / +, or press Tap tempo in time with a song. The tempo marking (Andante, Allegro…) is shown too.
Pick a time signature
Choose 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 5/4, 6/8 or 7/8. Accent the first beat marks the start of every bar.
Add subdivisions
Switch from Beats to 8ths, Triplets or 16ths to hear the smaller notes between the beats.
Start playing
Press play or hit Space. The lights follow each beat, so you can watch as well as listen. Adjust Volume to sit under your instrument.
Speed up gradually
Once a passage is clean, raise the tempo by 4-5 BPM and play it again.
Frequently asked questions
Is the timing accurate?
Yes - clicks are scheduled on the browser's audio clock ahead of time rather than with a timer, so they stay steady even if the page is busy.
How do I practise 6/8?
Pick 6/8 - you'll hear six clicks per bar with an accent on the first. Many players also count 6/8 as two big beats; set half the tempo with Triplets for that feel.
Can I find a song's tempo?
Use Tap tempo here, or the BPM Tapper tool, then play along. For an audio file, the Key & BPM Finder detects it automatically.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes - it runs in any modern mobile browser. Check your phone isn't on silent if you hear nothing.
