How to cut an MP3 or make a ringtone online

Open the audio file
Drop an MP3, WAV, M4A, OGG or FLAC (or the sound from an MP4/WEBM video) onto the box, or click Choose audio file.
Select the part to keep
Drag the gold handles on the waveform, or type exact Start and End times. Press play to hear only the selection, and turn on Loop to repeat it.
Use a quick pick

Add fades
Set Fade in so it doesn't start with a jolt and Fade out for a gentle ending.

Frequently asked questions
How do I make a ringtone?
Open the song, move the start handle to where you want it to begin, then press Ringtone (30 s) - it sets a 30-second cut with a soft fade and MP3 format. Save it, then set it as your ringtone: on Android pick the MP3 in Settings → Sound; on iPhone, import it with GarageBand and export it as a ringtone.
Is there a file size or length limit?
No fixed limit - it's your own computer doing the work. Very long files (an hour or more) need more memory, so a phone may struggle where a laptop won't.
Does cutting lower the quality?
Saving as WAV keeps every sample exactly as it was. MP3 re-encodes the audio; at 192 or 320 kbps the difference is inaudible for almost everyone.
Is my audio uploaded?
No. The file is decoded, cut and encoded inside your browser tab. It never reaches our servers or anyone else's.
Can I cut the sound from a video?
If your browser can play the file's sound, it can usually open it here - many MP4 and WEBM files work. Only the audio is saved.
