Frequently asked questions
Why do syllable counts matter?
Lines with similar syllable counts fit the same melody and rhythm. Matching counts across verses (and between a line and its rhyming partner) is the quickest way to make lyrics singable.
How accurate is the syllable count?
It uses an English pronunciation rule set - right for most words, occasionally off by one on unusual words or names. Treat it as a guide.
What are near rhymes?
Words that almost rhyme - sharing vowel sounds or endings ("heart" / "dark"). Most modern songwriting leans on them; they sound natural and give you far more options than perfect rhymes.
